چکیده

Abstract: The paper presents a new calibration algorithm for current output R-2R ladders. The R-2R ladders are popular because they are easy to realise, but the resistance tolerances limit their linearity properties. However, it is possible to achieve higher linearity with self-calibration techniques. A formerly published algorithm by Cutkosky is available for the so-called Cutkosky R-2R ladders. A similar algorithm can be applied to the current-output ladders, which are widely used as MDAC or DAC. In the paper the Cutkosky divider is shortly discussed, and then a new description is presented as basis of the calibration algorithm. The calibration algorithm is discussed in details, and the error budget is analysed. A simulator was also written to verify the theory.

A precise DA converter realised with imprecise resistors

In the 2R/R converters imprecision of resistors introduces two types of error. Positive errors introduce a gap in the analog domain, while negative errors cause non-monotonicity in the input/output characteristics. Changing the resistor ratio from 2R/R to 2R/R, with R>R, we intentionally introduce an additional negative error in order to avoid resulting positive error gap. In this paper we prop...

Area Allocation Strategies for Enhancing Yield of R-2R Ladders

A new strategy for allocating area, at layout, for enhancing the soft yield of R-2R ladders is introduced. In contrast to the conventional and convenient approach of allocating equal area to each R/2R bit-slice, the new strategy allocates progressively larger areas to higher-order bits. With this strategy, the INL yield for a fixed total resistor area as determined by local random variations in...

Fully Integrated Low-Noise Readout Circuit with Automatic Offset Cancellation Loop for Capacitive Microsensors

Capacitive sensing schemes are widely used for various microsensors; however, such microsensors suffer from severe parasitic capacitance problems. This paper presents a fully integrated low-noise readout circuit with automatic offset cancellation loop (AOCL) for capacitive microsensors. The output offsets of the capacitive sensing chain due to the parasitic capacitances and process variations a...

An analog VLSI decoding technique for digital codes

The design of various high-speed interface architectures for off-chip connections to and from analog, iterative VLSI decoders is discussed. It is shown that for applications with high transmission rates and low to medium accuracy, MOSFET-only R-2R ladders in combination with switched-current memory cells are ideally suited, due to their current mode nature as well as their power and area effici...

A 2.5V 6.4mW 10-bit 140MS/s Digital-to-Analog Converter with Improved Current Mirror

A 10-bit 140MS/s digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with improved current mirror is presented. In order to improve the resolusion of a 10-bit DAC, a segmented decoding plus R-2R architecture will be introduced. DAC system modeling shows that the dynamic performance of the DAC is strongly dependent on the output impedance of DAC current source. The gain-boosting technique is applied to increase t...
